JAMAICA MISTAKE SALAD

This is a wonderful sweet and sour dressing that started out as a marinade, but something went wrong.  I made this up when I needed a quick salad and was looking for a great sweet Carribean style dressing.  Jamaica mistake caught my eye, sitting there in the store, ready to fill the bill!

1 can Garbanzo Beans

1 can red beans

1/2 red onion or 2 green onions

1 can hearts of palm

1 can pineapple chunks

1 Red Bell Pepper

1 Yellow Bell Pepper

1/4 tsp Tabasco sauce  or hot pepper sauce (Optional if you a punk!  More if you're a heat fiend!)

Pinch of Paprika

4 hard boiled eggs, sliced

Butter lettuce leaves

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julliene the peppers and red onion (or finely chop the green onion).

Rinse and completely drain the beans, artichoke hearts, pineapple chunks and hearts of palm.

Slice the hearts of palms into 1/2 inch coins

Mix the tabasco or pepper sauce into Jamaica Mistake  (start with 1/2 bottle, add more as you go until it's right and good).

Mix dressing into the mix of palm, peppers, onions, pineapple and beans.

Serve on a bed of butter lettuce with a garnish of quartered egg that has been lightly dashed with the pinch of  paprika.

Serves 8-10

Will you make it for me...pleeezzzzz? Okay...never mind! But it sounds great!
now it's lunch time...!
sounds yummy, except for the peppers. I will find a substitute.

(I keep wanting to call it Jamaica MistakA)

!
Now this is a very interesting recipe. Not that most on here aren't, but this one sounds very tasty. I'll be over around 6 pm!

I don't even have the ingredients! Can't afford them, but I'll splurge next month.

Thanks, all!
This is no mistake, Ms. Zuma. This sounds so yummy! What say we have a pot luck dinner party sometime?
could jamaica one for me?
Coyote: Cool! You got foods! I only have a few recipes.

Cap'n: You bring the Margarita-titas!
I make a similar but much quieter cannellini bean salad. This sounds like the perfect accompaniment for Jamaican jerked pork.
Hi Roy!

Wayne: Ummmm...what's you jerk pork recipe?
Dear Ms. Z

I think I saw this one on the McD's menu just after the free-range chicken fingers.
And yes I want fries with that?
Honey, you bring the recipes and between those and the ideas in my head and the food in the pantry plus the farmers' markets starting up, I'm sure we could do some serious foodie damage!
If you happen to use either Grace or Mr. Gouda's brand Jamaican Pepper Sauce, you'd better put much less than half a bottle in. That much would set your house on fire!!

Both are made with what are called "country peppers" in Jamaica. In Canada and the US country peppers are known as Scotch Bonnet. They have the highest percentage of capsacin (capsin) of ANY peppers known except for a couple of engineered types, not on the open market yet.

Mmm mmm mmm
GOOD MUNCHIES!!

RATED (for zuma-extra-licious!)

PS
DO NOT serve this without beer a-plenty in the house! Your guests WILL need to put the fire out.
i thought by the title this might be a gag, but mistake or not, this sounds delicious.
Gramps: Oooh la la! Chez McDonaaaald!

Coyote: You are the queen of recipes, that's for sure! Your recipes and farmer's markets add up to some serious cooking!

jonmagee: The last time I served this, folks were not well behaved, so you'lll be a refreshing change!

Larry: I just saw some scotch bonnet seedlings at Wal Mart. Dang. I still have Cayennes and Tabascos from last summer's garden. They are as hot as I can stand. You're right, though, the real Jamaican salad dressing is three alarms at least!

Scotch bonnet, dried and spread on your property line and lawn just about insures that loose dogs will never bother anyone at the homestead.

Naneh: I will never play with the food posts!
i just downed chilie cheese fries and a pina colada smoothie on top of the cheese fries I ate at the zoo. Salad- what's that?
Hy! For you, salad comes after the pepto bismol!
dammit! now I want a pina colada smoothie!
