Know Thy Neighbor is reporting that Wal-Mart CEO Mike Duke's signature is among the 80,000 Arkansas residents that signed a petition to ban adoption for same-sex couples. His wife signed also.
Mike Duke of 16 Pinnacle Drive, Rogers, Arkansas with the birthdate of 12/07/49 appears on a petition sheet for the Anti-Gay Arkansas Adoption and Foster Ban or Act 1. The actual petition sheet may be viewed here and on KnowThyNeighbor.org where one may find the alleged signature of Mr. Duke and the check mark put on by the State of Arkansas indicating that this name was verified and counted for the advancement and ultimate success of the anti-gay legislation in Arkansas in 2008 otherwise known as Act 1.
Wal-Mart has a dismal 40% rating on the HRC's Corporate Diversity Index.

Mr. Duke is a citizen of Arkansas and as such is entitled to his choices as much as the next citizen. No need to drag Wal Mart into this.
Organizations reflect the values (or lack thereof) of their leaders. It is quite reasonable to expect that the actions of the CEO reflect on the organization.
I have never bought anything from them. I'm so glad!!
True Regana. As a former Health Club manager and fitness instructor, it's a known fact that a manager always wears "the manager hat" even when not at work - the leaders of an organization must behave in a way that is respectful of the organization itself. If this is the caliber of person that Wal-Mart sees fit to represent them, then they owe the public an apology.
Mr. Duke may well be shameful, bigoted and discriminatory, but I can tell you that there is a transgendered person working at my local Walmart. She is normally clerking on the express lane and has a 10-year badge with a "Star Cashier" recognition hanging on the front wall of the store.

Down the street at Sam's Club (an entity of Walmart) there are TWO transgendered cashiers, easily the most visible people in the store.

In contrast, Winn-Dixie not only fired a transgendered person here in Jacksonville at the corporate office (she would not have been visible to anyone out-of-office), but she was found shot in the head execution-style in her front yard after filing suit against them. (Perhaps a random coincidence?)

I get the whole "Wal-mart is evil and corporate" thing, but the truth is that unless you're eating exclusively locally, Wal-Mart's distribution system is more centralized than any other national or regional chain. They were the first business in my area to offer low-cost ($1) reusable shopping bags at the checkout and are still yet the ONLY business offering reusable freezer bags.

I'm not saying Walmart is perfect. I won't even say they are good corporate neighbors. I'm on the other side of the country from you, but down here in the Deep South, willingness to hire transgendered persons is anything but bigoted and discriminatory.

Just my two cents.

Oh, and for the record, I think Act 1 is a travesty of humanity and Mr. Duke should be smacked around. HE is shameful, bigoted and discriminatory.
We spend a great deal of time in Rogers because they have the BEST soccer fields in the 4 states, so our team plays their tournaments quite often. I can assure you that all of Rogers voted right along with Mike Duke ~ that is one constipated town.
HE is shameful, bigoted and discriminatory.

He is shameful, bigoted and discriminatory because he disagrees with you?

I don't agree with his views on the subject issue but calling him names because you disagree is childish and unecessary.
Blackflon misses the point. Discriminatory legislation and voting to deny equal rights to American citizens IS shameful, bigoted and discriminatory. What part of that do you have trouble understanding?
